Kaizoku Sentai GOKAIGER, A Pirate Squadron

Ok, reader!! This time, in this post, I want to make a review about a serial from super sentai (A genre in tokusatsu). It is called Gokaiger, a pirate sentai (kaizoku sentai). I just finished that series a few day ago, Saturday, 20 July 2013. Actually I have the video since it is ended in Japan, of course after I download it from internet.

Now, I want to explain why this series is an interesting series for me. Do you know why this kind of show appeared? Yes, you right if your answer is Kamen rider Decade. Onore Dikeido!! This super sentai can change become senshi (warriors) from the past sentai and that is the interesting (unique) point. Kids in this day never know about  the sentai in the past. For me (personally), I just know some of them, such as Flashman, Maskman, Liveman, Turbo ranger (in this country, it is called “Pasukan Turbo”), Fiveman, Jetman, Dai Ranger (in this country, it is called “Star Ranger”), Kaku Ranger (in this country, it is called “Ninja Ranger”), OH ranger, Carranger, Megaranger and Gingaman. They are appeared in the National TV. Some of them, I know it from the adaptation version from America. At first, I think the original version is the Power Ranger series, but I was wrong. The first Power ranger series that I see is Mighty Morphin Power Ranger.

OK, back to the main topic. Kaizoku sentai Gokaiger come from the space. It mean, they are aliens. They have ranger keys which separated in the universe. What are ranger keys? Yeah, let me explain that key word. Long time ago, 34 super sentai on Earth have battle against the enemy called Zangyack. To drive them out from this world, 34 super sentai join force and united their power. Finally, they did defeat Zangyack but their power lost, separated to the whole universe and changed to be ranger keys. Red Golaiger, the captain has travelled across the universe to collect the ranger keys. He also make his own pirate group after the Akaki Pirate (his previous pirate Group) disbanded. His dream is to get the greatest treasure in the universe (uchuu saidai no otakara).

As I told you, Gokaiger has unique ability, transform into the previous super sentai teams. But the amazing thing from that ability is they can change with the same color at the same time. On their first debut, Shinkenger vs Goseiger, 5 members Gokaiger change into five red sentai. 

That’s a cool ability. 5 red change (aka baka) also appeared in the series on episode 2. 

Then, in episode 3, the do 3 black change and 3 white change. 

In episode 16, to give warm greeting for their sixth member, Gokaiger do 6 silver change. 

Then, in episode 43, Gokaiger do 6 green change to thanks gokai Green as their legendary hero, LOL.

In episode 44, they do 6 yellow change. 

And finally, they do 6 Blue change to show Ninjaman their special ability. 

That’s the last one color change in the series. In a movie, Gokaiger vs Gavan, Gokaiger di 3 times one color changes, 6 red change, 6 white change and 6 pink changes.

That’s all  the one color changes. The unbelievable thing is when I watch episode 40, I think I have seen that 5 red changes. Yeah, that is their first debut in the movie. That’s the first thinking but after I watch that episode, that’s not their debut (actually). That series has done good job to create “back in time” perfectly. Its really really pretty good job. In episode 44, Gokai silver makes an abnormal change. That’s a special change from his special personal ability. He changes become half red and half green Gokaiger.

That’s remind me of a kamen rider. Yeah, Kamen rider W or you can call it Kamen rider Double. But I think that’s not a good combination. Gokai Silver also use that ability to Unite additional member key from Go-onger. Gokai silver in his upgrade form, Gold mode also remind me of Kamen rider Decade. Onore Dikeido!!.

In a tribute episode, Gokaiger make a logical fun comedy. That’s Abaranger tribute. Because Abaranger only has 5 member, Gokai pink has to use the additional costum and she can make it showy like usual. You have to know that the catchphrase of Gokaiger is “ lets make it Showy” or hade ni ikuze!!

OK, now lets make it showy…, sorry, I mean lets go to the next stage. If you hear a pirate group as the Protagonist group or a pirate group as the main character, you must (maybe) think one thing, ONE PIECE. Yeah, that’s the fenomenal anime from Japan. And, in this super sentai series, Gokaiger, I found some interesting trivia which (maybe) has connection to One Piece. The creator has good choice to make Gokaiger as pirate squadron. Ok, lets make a review one by one.

Gokai red, Captain Marvelous is the lone Survivor of the Akaki (Red) Pirates. Akaki pirates remind me to Akagami kaizokudan (Red haired Pirate). Akagami is the basic reason why Luffy, the Captain of Mugiwara Pirates become a pirate. Marvelous is weak when he was hungry (of course). That kind thing also one of Luffy habits. Marvelous’s words to Don (Doc= Hakase): “Just do what you can” has similar meaning with the word from Sanji to Usopp,” I do what you cant do, you do what I cant do”.

The first mate, Joe Gibken is a traitor, formerly, he is a Zangyack soldier. His swordmanship remind me to Zoro, Luffy First mate. Joe’s past is connected to his senpai (senior). Zoro also has connection with his forever rival in the past. If Zoro uses three sword style, Joe uses two swords style, even, Joe can use five swords style.

The  next member is Luka Milfy, Lady Thief. The nickname remind me to Nami which has “cat buglar” as her nick name. Luka also see the money as the primary matter in his life. It is because her poor life in the past. She lost his little sister in the past. Nami also lost her precious family in the past.   

Then, Don Dogoiger. Its so sad because Zangyack don’t care about him. He was skipped when Zangyack see their wanted poster. He was good at repairing, just like Usopp. He also do one lie about the legendary hero. Its not same to usopp because lie is his daily habits. Don is expert in cooking. That’s the job in comparison to Sanji. That’s the job in comparison to Sanji. He was called engineer that cant fight.

The next crew is Ahim de Famille, a princess of Famille Planet. Its same with vivi eventhough Vivi is the toori sugari no hime (passing through princess) in Mugiwara kaizokudan.

The last one is Ikari Gai, the Eartling who join Gokaiger. Hmmm. He don’t remind me of anyone.

Ok, that’s enough about the member. Now I want to tell you another similar concepts. Gokaiger use the wanted poster to determine the value of their danger level. They also has a job called bounty hunter. In the one piece’s world wanted poster and bounty hunter is a common matter. They also do something without any logic reason. Logic reason: pirate is bad sides. Mugiwara kaizokudan also do something without common senses. They do not want to accept thanks from another people who is helped by them.

In Gokaiger, I found some scenes which remind me to One piece. The scene when Ahim asks help from Marvelous, its like scene when Nami ask help from Luffy. Then, the scene when Marvelous saves Joe, its like the episode when Luffy saves Zoro.

In Gokaiger, they call each other use the word “Nakama” or “friend”. Nakama  also the precious word in Mugiwara kaizokudan. And you know, I recognize two seiyuu (voice actor) in Gokaiger is seiyuu from one piece. MachFalcon voice actor is Sanji voice actor. Ninjaman voice actor is Franky voice actor.

The best thing in Gokaiger is you can see the real past hero as their character in the past. Of course, some of them is an old man now. The special appearance is when the full member of Hurricanger appears on their tribute episode. The sad thing for me is why they only access their power to super ranger in one episode, the last episode. Its so sad. 

Before their episodes run out, Gokaiger succeed to get the greatest treasure in the universe. But because they don’t want to delete the warriors from the past, they get rid the treasure. In the final Episode, Marvelous gain his new goal, the second greatest treasure in universe, LOL!!OK, that is my review about Gokaiger. I hope you have time to watch this unique series. Addition, the funniest moment from the first episode is when they fail to eat Curry on eating curry time. So Mugiwara still after One Piece because the second piece has targeted by Gokaiger. (Zet.@, Tuesday, 23 July 2013)
